MINUTEMAN UPS Protects Power For New EDS Experience Marketing Center
DALLAS – June 27, 2001 – MINUTEMAN UPS has been tapped to provide clean, uninterrupted power supplies and network management/control devices for EDS’ new marketing center, the EDS Experience, at EDS Corporate Headquarters in Plano, Texas.  Six MINUTEMAN UPSproducts are built into the network infrastructure of the 10,000-square-foot marketing center that offers visitors a demonstration of EDS’ capabilities and accomplishments for its clients around the world.

The center’s hands-on interactive environment presents EDS’ thought leadership for the new digital economy. Exhibits include examples of multifunctional smart card and smart chip technology, wearable computers, 3-D GPS geospatial mission planning, and miniaturized high-frequency ID systems such as the “shoestring” smart chip data collection system used to record runners’ finishing times in the London Marathon. Another smart chip showcase exhibit is an intelligent, smart chip-driven coffee machine called “Mr. Java,” which is a product of EDS’s association with MIT and the Things That Think lab.

“The EDS Experience must always be completely operational, and so we planned to include power protection from its inception,” said Mary Frances Hoover, EDS’ Director of Marketing Centers. “To help ensure that a supply of clean, uninterrupted power would never be an issue, we turned to MINUTEMAN UPS, which has been an important and trusted EDS vendor for many years.”

“MINUTEMAN UPS has repeatedly proven to EDS that its products can eliminate power concerns in challenging situations,” stated Neil Youngblood, MCSE, EDS’ System Administrator Advanced for Marketing Centers. “Their team worked closely with my staff to spec out a solution that met our needs for today as well as for the future.”

Rod L. Pullen, Presidentof MINUTEMAN UPS said, “We’re proud to be a part of The EDS Experience, which is certainly one of the most comprehensive and impressive corporate marketing centers in the world. MINUTEMAN UPS has helped keep mission-critical corporations and organizations supplied with clean, continuous, protected electrical power for more than 20 years, and we’re a longtime provider of uninterruptible power supply and network control products to EDS.”

MINUTEMAN UPS is a worldwide provider of power protection products and services for telecommunications equipment, comm/data networks, retail point-of-sale devices and networks, sensitive electronic equipment, and security installations.

The need for power protection is rising dramatically. “Downtime caused by power irregularities and disruptions can lead to staggering productivity and revenue losses, as we’ve seen recently in California and other parts of the world,” added Mr. Pullen. “Studies have shown that an unprotected microprocessor will malfunction if AC power is interrupted for even a single cycle. The exhibits inside the EDS Experience underscore the complexities of today’s global businesses, and why a reliable UPS network is critical for success.”

The EDS Experience incorporates three MINUTEMAN Enterprise™ 2300 UPS units and three MINUTEMAN RPM ™ Remote Power Management units. The products now protect, monitor, and control power for the center’s network infrastructure and will soon also protect every server inside the EDS Experience.

The Enterprise E 2300 UPS was specifically designed for enterprise-applications, supplying pure sinewave output during blackouts while line-interactive voltage regulators protect against sags, surges, spikes, and brownouts. The E 2300, like all MINUTEMAN UPS products, has an industry leading three-year warranty.

EDS also uses MINUTEMAN RPM Remote Power Manager control units in the Center. MINUTEMAN RPMs allow network administrator to individually control AC power for up to eight connected devices such as servers, hubs, routers, modems, and telephone systems. Up to 15 RPM client units can be added to one MINUTEMAN RPM master unit to control as many as 128 devices.

“The MINUTEMAN RPM is the ultimate power nerve center for controlling multiple network devices and services,” noted Mr. Pullen.  “Once a MINUTEMAN RPM is configured and connected to the network, you can reboot a locked network router directly or remotely, using a Web browser or your cell phone.”

MINUTEMAN UPS is a manufacturer of uninterruptible power supplies and related equipment and MINUTEMAN Sentry II™ power monitoring and diagnostic software. Corporations worldwide depend on MINUTEMAN UPS to protect, manage, and control network systems, telecommunications equipment, retail POS systems, security systems, and sensitive electronic equipment worldwide. MINUTEMAN UPS products range from 300 VA to 10 kVA units and can be custom-configured to clients’ specifications.

MINUTEMAN UPS was founded in 1982 as Para Systems, Inc. The company is wholly owned operating subsidiary of Components Corporation of America, a privately held corporation. Additional information about MINUTEMAN UPS and its products is available via the Internet at www.minutemanups.com.
