Can some one tell me how this modem serial port is supposed to work? all i can find in any manual or other forms is "once it is set up properly" it should work. what is properly? and how does the device know how or when to dial out? can the serial port be used to accept standard AT commands?

My setup -
Sierra Wireless Raven X Modem connected to Netgear VPN Router via Ethernet. The 1610 is connected to the Netgear via Ethernet and we use the web interface on the 1610 over the VPN. Also have 3 PCs connected to Netgear.

What I want to accomplish -
Keep the same setup but have the 1610 connected to the Raven X via Serial and have that as a kind of back door in to the 1610 so we can reboot the Netgear when it locks up by getting in to the 1610 and turning the outlet off and back on.

In order to do this I need to understand how the 1610 uses the Serial Modem port so I know how to configure the serial port on the Raven X

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you.
