We have an XRT 2000 used as a backup power supply for our PBX telephone system. The ups is actually used as a way to keep the system up until the emergency generator kicks in. (within a few minutes usually)
About 2 weeks ago we got a call that the phone system was dead, and upon further investigation we found that the XRT 2000 was not functioning properly. There was in fact no power outage, but the PBX was starting and stopping; powering up and powering down ( we could hear the fans revving up and then slowing down). When the PBX would start it would run about 10 seconds then the LCD display on the XRT 2000 would display low battery, beep and then PBX would power down. The cycle described here continued over and over until we disconnected the PBX from the UPS and connected it directly to the 120V power supply.
We discovered that the batteries were faulty (we thouht they were faulty anyway we're not so sure now) ordered a new set, and when they arrived allowed them to charge and then reinstalled the ups. It ran fine for a little over a week and then the same problem occured.
The PBX puts about a 30% load on the XRT 2000. We have one battery pack installed and when we tested it on the bench with a 1200 watt heat gun (62% load) everything seemed fine with the AC 120 volts connected. When we disconnected the AC input power the unit still seems to function properly .. although maybe not as long as the manual says it should. With the 1200 watt load it ran on battery power for about 10 minutes before the low battery warning came on.
I'm not sure where this puts us, but we wouold like some advice before we reinstall this unit ... it seems a little rough on the PBX to start and stop the way it was doing.
(edit) (While we were looking through the manual we found that in the setup menu there was an option to turn the autostart off. We did this so that in the future if the batteries fail we will not have the problem of starting and stopping that we experienced as described above) |

Has it always worked with the generator ? If it works with 1200 watt
load on battery then XRT should be OK. Give me a call 800-238-7272

Was the XRT2000 running on the generator? Both times of the problem? Please check the voltage and frequency of the input to the XRT.

| At the time of the problems the input power was off the normal 120 volt supply. The generator only comes into play when there is a power outage. |

johnjirish,
Did the problems occur at the same time of the day?
It seems likely that something was happening with the input voltage at these times. The input could have been low or high and caused the unit to switch back and forth to battery, until the batteries drained.
Have you had the XRT plugged in and running without a load since the second time?

Yes ... both times it happened around 11:30 AM, but on different days of the week.
The unit has been plugged in and running without a load other than the testing I mentioned in my original post. |

johnjirish,
It seems like something maybe happening to the power at this time of the day. Have you notice any construction near your building or any large equipment starting or stopping at this time of the day?
