I have a MinuteMan Enterprise E1100. I have connected the UPS to my linux server using a Null Modem cable. SentryII is trying all the port speeds but is unable to find the UPS. Here is the error output:

The serial port appears to be running:
root@pbx:/usr/local/sbin# dmesg|grep tty
[ 71.085685] serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
[ 71.086408] 00:06: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

root@pbx:/usr/local/sbin# statserial -d /dev/ttyS0
16390

Its Ubuntu 7.10
Linux pbx 2.6.22-14-server #1 SMP Tue Feb 12 08:27:05 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Thanks!

Thanks Jeff, this is a different issue. I have the daemon running just fine, its just not communicating with the UPS.

Mike,
Give me an address and I'll send you a cable.

The baud rate is 9600 for the enterprise series. I show you have that speed listed in your file.

The web port is 80 or anything you have open.

I do not see that file.

I have a null modem cable. I think I am going to abandon the idea of monitoring the UPS via the software. For some reason the UPS keeps getting shut down randomly. Previously it was due to a standard serial cable. But now it happens randomly with the null modem cable too. It also shuts down my linux server. I just lost my voice mail and all long distance because i didnt notice the cable shut down the UPS. Grrr!

MIke,
Pin one is a instant shut down pin. So, if that pin is connected then the unit thinks it is a direct short to turn off the output.

Pin 2 TXD
Pin 3 RXD
Pin 5 GND

What is the serial number of the UPS?

I just want to see the age from the serial #.

S/N EC60040750319

Thats why I bought a null modem cable so it wouldnt insta-kill the UPS. So why is it still being shut down??

I dont have a spare E1100 to test with, but I really want to monitor the UPS. But I cant have it randomly shut down. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Mike,

I checked what I needed.

Send me the address and i'll send you a cable.

I do not know why the unit shut you down.

The batteries are a little over 3 year old.

Hello Mike-

It does sound as though either some other daemon is taking over the /dev/tty/S0 port, or there's a problem with the cable.

As a side question: You don't happen to be running Network UPS Tools (NUT) daemon at the same time do you? If you're not sure, you could do a $ ps aux | grep upsd to check and see. That daemon would take over the serial port and could cause problems. Is there any other process running on the machine that might be trying to lock the port?

Please post and let us know.

Todd

I dont see any processes that might want to control the serial port.

Thank you for offering to send a cable. My address is:
