Minuteman Ups Launches Sentryii™ Power Management And Diagnostic Software
Software Can Monitor and Control Multiple Computers through a Single UPS Device
Las Vegas, November 13, 2001 MINUTEMAN UPS, a leading manufacturer of single-phase uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), today released a redesigned and enhanced version of its widely used Sentry™ power management and diagnostic software. The announcement of the release of the software came during COMDEX Fall 2001, the annual global IT conference. Called SentryII™, the new software can be used to monitor and shut down a single workstation or an entire network, whether or not each individual computer on the network is attached to its own UPS. SentryII allows network administrators to monitor, control and gracefully shut down computers in a logical order anywhere in the world through a single UPS, using IP addresses and a Web browser. "SentryII represents a significant advancement in UPS power management software because it is not limited to use with a single operating system, nor does it require that every computer on the network have an RS232 or USB port," said Randy Robinson, MIS director for MINUTEMAN UPS. "Most power management software is limited to controlling computers that share a single operating system, and many programs require that a certain brand of UPS be attached to every computer to be managed. SentryII avoids these requirements and extends power management protection to every client or server computer on a network." MINUTEMAN's SentryII Power Management and Diagnostic Software allows a single UPS to be programmed to provide unattended and orderly shutdown of multiple computer servers and clients, whether they operate under Windows®, Linux, UNIX, Novell® Netware® or any combination of operating systems. Additionally, SentryII software is compatible with firewall and security systems, and it provides SNMP traps so network administrators can customize the software to meet their specific requirements. SentryII software has two component programs. A "master server" program is installed on one computer connected to a MINUTEMAN UPS. In addition, a "remote client" program is installed on all other computers to be controlled by the master server. Because the programs operate through a Web browser, the SentryII interface screens are clean, intuitive and consistently graphical. They also require little disk space and processing power. Regardless of network configurations, SentryII software gives network administrators greater flexibility to monitor and control power events affecting their computer operations worldwide using direct connections, LANS or WANs, or the Internet. "With its built-in notification system, SentryII alerts you to power events through a broadcast message, paging or email," Robinson added. "You can identify and isolate potential power problems before they happen. Every computer on your network can be part of a cohesive master plan, no matter where it is located or how it is connected. SentryII's features also allow you to schedule future events, run a predefined program if an event happens, and authorize access to multiple users or administrators." SentryII software is free with every MINUTEMAN UPS, and is downwardly compatible with all MINUTEMAN products. The new software is currently available for download at www.minutemanups.com, and it is being shipped with all new MINUTEMAN UPS products. About MINUTEMAN UPS MINUTEMAN UPS was founded in 1982 as Para Systems, Inc. The company is a wholly owned operating subsidiary of Components Corporation of America, a privately held corporation.
