MINUTEMAN UPS Announces Smartsine ™ Line Of True Sinewave Uninterruptible Power Supplies

SmartSine ™ Offers Clean, Affordable, Sinewave Power for Critical Applications

Carrollton, Texas - August 15, 2002 - MINUTEMANฎ UPS announced a new line of inexpensive true sinewave, line-interactive uninterruptible power supplies designed to offer network-grade protection from electrical disturbances and power disruptions in a compact design.

The new SmartSine ™ Series UPS models provide the true sinewave power that's ideal for sensitive electronic components and critical network devices. Each unit protects connected equipment from utility AC blackouts, brownouts, spikes and surges. The SmartSine ™ Series models are available in power sizes of 700, 1000, 1400, and 2000 VA. Each unit features eight (8) battery backup and surge protected outlets, surge protection for an RJ-11 fax/modem or an RJ-45 network connection, and an expansion slot for connecting optional accessory cards.

"Providing the maximum level of availability is the goal of every network administrator," said Rod L. Pullen, President of MINUTEMAN UPS. "With the SmartSine ™ UPS systems we can offer high-quality, sophisticated power protection and management at a lower cost than competitive units and still provide the rich feature set that our customers have come to expect from us."

All of the SmartSine ™ units feature automatic voltage regulation (AVR) using a built-in power transformer to provide two boost stages for low voltage conditions and a single buck stage for high voltage conditions on the incoming utility AC. This regulation saves wear and tear on the batteries by reducing the number of times the unit must switch to battery mode to "ride out" minor changes in voltage.

Each model also features MINUTEMAN's standard independent battery bypass feature allowing the UPS to continue to provide the AVR function, surge protection, and condition the AC power to the connected load even if its batteries become discharged or disconnected.

The SmartSine ™ includes a built-in expansion slot that allows the addition of one of several different option cards to provide functionality such as SNMP or Web browser-based monitoring and management, environmental monitoring for measuring temperature and humidity in a specific location, multiple server shutdown, relay contact closure, or the ability to shutdown/reboot devices connected to a MINUTEMAN RPM ™ Remote Power Manager.

In addition, all units are optimized for use with MINUTEMAN's Web browser-based SentryII ™ power management and diagnostic software that provides unlimited server shutdown capabilities. Every model in the SmartSine ™ Series includes a free, industry-leading three-year parts and labor warranty, as well as a $40,000 MINUTEMAN Platinum Protection Planฎ covering connected equipment.

"We know from industry surveys that the average business customer would still face nearly an hour of downtime in one year if the power grid was 99.99% reliable," said MINUTEMAN UPS Vice President Rick Hunteman. "Unfortunately, we also know from experience that a customer will never see this kind of reliability from existing utility systems. Therefore, placing a SmartSine ™ UPS in between the power company and vital electronics equipment increases the availability of all critical systems and can possibly pay for itself several times during a brief power interruption."

Full specifications and data sheets for the new SmartSine ™ models are available on the MINUTEMAN Web site at www.minutemanups.com. The company also offers a free Web-based UPS sizing tool at www.sizemyups.com for companies who would like to determine which SmartSine ™ units (or other MINUTEMAN UPS models) can best meet their power protection needs. The SmartSine ™ line will begin shipping in August 2002. Prices will start at $319.00.
